High-resolution topographic surveys using drones for urban planning in Nepal

At Airlift Technology, we operated UAV survey missions to generate high-resolution digital terrain models and orthomosaics for urban planning projects across Nepal.

Problem

Traditional topographic surveys in Nepal’s terrain are expensive, time-consuming, and sometimes dangerous. Urban planners and infrastructure developers needed accurate, up-to-date maps.

Approach

Deployed fixed-wing and multi-rotor UAVs equipped with RGB and multispectral cameras. Flight paths were planned for systematic overlap coverage. Ground control points were established for georeferencing. SfM photogrammetry produced orthomosaics and digital elevation models.

Impact

Multiple projects completed for urban planning clients, delivering survey results in days rather than weeks at a fraction of traditional costs. Demonstrated the viability of drone-based surveying for Nepal’s geography and regulatory environment.
